Environmentally Responsible Computing with The Symbiont Solution

Can you run your computer network efficiently, slash your electrical costs, and reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere, all at the same time?

You can with The Symbiont Solution.

Symbiont Certified Network Terminals by definition are environmentally friendly because this stateless thin client technology:

  • uses only 5 watts of electricity, compared to at least 85 watts for standard PCs
  • has no internal moving parts, so they rarely break or need to be discarded. The longer replacement cycle means fewer workstations that have to be disposed of in landfills, thereby reducing e-waste
  • has no embedded software, so they have no built-in obsolescence, and
last 2 to 3 times longer than standard PCs
  • is RoHS and WEEE compliant

Using Symbio zero clients will cut your workstations' electrical use by almost 95%.

How does that help reduce CO2 emissions?

A recent study by the German research group, the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology, determined that generating one kilowatt-hour of electricity discharges 0.63 kilograms of CO2 into the atmosphere.

If a standard PC needs 85 watts to operate, over a period of 1000 hours, it will expel 53.55 kilograms of CO2 into the atmosphere.  A Symbio thin client needs only 5 watts to operate, so over the same time period, it will add only 3.15 kilograms of CO2 to the atmosphere.  By replacing PCs with Symbio thin clients, you could reduce annual CO2 emissions by more than 100 kilograms for each PC!

The unique design of Symbio thin clients benefits the environment in other ways as well:

  • Fewer internal parts means reduced production costs, saving even more energy
  • With no internal moving parts, Symbio thin clients generate little heat and operate silently
  • Their small size (typically about 6 inches high) means that many more units can fit in a shipping container, reducing transportation costs and fossil fuel consumption
  • Their improved refresh cycle (as much as 17 years between replacements as opposed to the 3 to 5 years typical of PCs) reduces the hazards and costs associated with disposal and the need for landfill.
  • Almost all parts of a Symbio thin client can be recycled, as opposed to only 76% of standard PCs

Don't just upgrade your network. Improve it!

Be kind to your bottom line and the planet at the same time.

If you care about the environment, Symbio stateless thin client technology is the responsible computing choice.
